We’re halfway there! NHS3 participants help build a biorepository of samples for the future.
Thank you to the 2,000 NHS3 participants who have already joined the Biospecimen Collection! This exciting project aims to build an abundant resource of blood, urine, and stool samples to investigate how our biology today (including hormones, microbiome, and genes) shapes our health in the future.
One of the project’s primary goals is to identify early indicators of increasingly common diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and asthma. Collecting samples from participants early in life gives researchers an opportunity to better understand predictors of chronic conditions, improve treatment options, and develop prevention strategies. Researchers will also be able to use the repository to address new questions as they emerge over time.
Each week, our biorepository staff receives samples from NHS3 participants all across the country. The samples are processed and placed in liquid nitrogen freezers to preserve them for future research efforts. Data security and participant confidentiality is maintained to the highest degree.
As an NHS3 participant, you are already part of a historic effort to improve public health research. Joining the NHS3 Biospecimen Collection is a unique opportunity to multiply the impact of your questionnaire data.
We are sending invites on a rolling basis. Look out for an email invitation or log in at nhs3login.org to find “NHS3 Biospecimen Collection” on your participant dashboard. As always, feel free to contact us with any questions you may have along the way.
